Signposts Activ8The Activ8 Project runs during school holidays, and aims to engage Young People in positive ‘tasks' within their community for which they then receive a reward/treat. The role of Activ8 includes: • Offering diversionary activities to Young People who may at risk of committing crime, ‘hard to reach' or margianalised. • Enabling Young People to take part in positive activities. • Building a sense of ownership and pride within Young People for their community. • Enabling all members of the community to positively engage with Young People, and to see Young People contributing to their community. Recent tasks have included: Painting a Children's Play area Designing Play activities on the floor of a play area Making a video of what young people think about their community litter picking and recycling Gardening and weeding Making a puppet show called ‘Where we live' Talks with the local Police Community Support Officers Writing letters about environmental issues Painting a mural for outside a Community Centre Making and tasting healthy food The project is always looking for appropriate tasks for Young People to take part in. Young People taking part in the Activ8 Project are consulted on the reward/treat they would enjoy. These have included Ice Skating, Bowling, Stunt Skills, Archery, Canoeing, Music Workshops and so on. Activ8 takes part in the following areas: • West End of Morecambe: Younger (8-12yrs) • Carnforth (12 – 18yrs) – working in partnership with LCC Youth & Community and the Police • Preston - Farringdon Park Area (13 – 18yrs) Any agency or organisation can refer Young People to the project using Signposts Initial Referral form which is available from the website on the downloads page or by clicking here . Signposts aims to target those Young People who are not engaging in ‘main stream' activities and who live within one of the geographical areas. In the past referrals have been received from GRIP, YOT, Schools, Family Support Services, the Police and Youth and Community Service.
