Generic Support including Information and Advice

Aim:

To provide a user friendly, easily accessible, non-threatening service to anyone seeking information and advice at Signposts whether by personal contact, telephone or letter.

Objectives:

  1. to meet the information needs of individuals, agencies and statutory bodies and the community (in conjunction with the core element of the work)
  2. to make appropriate referrals to other agencies and services
  3. to offer an holistic service to enquirers which seeks to address the concerns of the individual rather than provide answers to questions
  4. to provide a suitable range of leaflets and publications
  5. to provide local information sheets on a range of issues
  6. to offer specialist information and advice both within its own service and by offering space for other services to provide information and advice

The agreed values on which the service is based are:

  • to ensure that no information provided is more than a year old
  • to ensure that information provided by members of the Signposts team is monitored by regular on-the-job supervision and formal supervision to ensure quality
  • to provide relevant and coherent information that is accessible to all members of society within an equal opportunities environment
  • to ensure that necessary training opportunities are made available to the staff team
  • to ensure that the necessary back-up resources are available to achieve the quality of provision required
  • to provide for constant evaluation and monitoring to take place to ensure that specific issues are raised with other service providers so that they are made aware of how our enquirers receive their services both positively and negatively
  • to ensure that confidentiality is maintained within appropriate policy guidelines
  • to ensure that the individual is treated with appropriate respect at all times
  • to ensure that information received by the Centre from enquirers is treated with appropriate respect
  • to maintain an atmosphere that is conducive to equal opportunities
